Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Petik Laut tradition as a medium for internalizing the character values of coastal communities from a local historical perspective. This study is motivated by the tendency of previous studies to focus more on descriptive-ritualistic and symbolic aspects, thus not integrating the historical dimension with the formation of community character. The research uses a qualitative approach through field studies with participatory observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation of traditional leaders, community leaders, and tradition practitioners. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions with triangulation of sources to ensure data validity. The results of the research show that the Petik Laut tradition contains religious values, mutual cooperation, social responsibility, and respect for nature that are passed down from generation to generation and internalized in the social life of the community. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of local historical studies and contextual character value analysis, positioning the Petik Laut tradition not only as a cultural heritage but also as a source of historical learning and character education based on local wisdom. This research contributes to the strengthening of culture-based local historical studies and the development of character education relevant to the context of coastal communities.
