This study analyzes the improvement of reading comprehension and review-writing skills through the implementation of the Sepekan 1 Buku Literacy Program at SMP Kristen Petra 2 Surabaya, utilizing Hans Robert Jauss's theory of aesthetic reception. This research is important because most school literacy studies still focus on quantitative aspects and have not deeply examined the process of students' subjective meaning-making as active readers. A descriptive qualitative approach with a reflective-participatory design was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, analysis of reading journals, documentation of review works, and reflective interviews with 108 seventh-grade students. Thematic analysis was conducted by referring to Jauss's concept of the horizon of expectation, employing three-stage coding (open, axial, and selective) to trace changes in how students interpret texts. The findings indicate that this program successfully: (1) expanded students' horizons of expectation toward reading texts, (2) enhanced critical and reflective thinking skills through review writing, and (3) fostered a sustainable and collaborative literacy culture in the school. These results confirm the relevance of Jauss's theory in school literacy pedagogy, where students act as active subjects constructing meaning through reading and writing experiences. The implications of this study offer a receptive-experience-based literacy learning model that can be adapted by other schools to holistically support literacy quality improvement.
