AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA

General Principles of Authorship

TRANSFORMASI: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika & Matematika is committed to promoting responsible authorship, transparency in scholarly contributions, and accountability in scientific publishing within mathematics education and mathematics. Authorship must accurately reflect the intellectual and scientific contributions of individuals involved in the conception, development, execution, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research. All individuals listed as authors must have made substantial scholarly contributions and must accept responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the published work.

Eligibility for Authorship

To qualify for authorship, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

1. Substantial Scholarly Contribution

The individual must have made a substantial contribution to at least one of the following aspects of the research:

  • Conception, formulation, or design of the research.
  • Development of mathematics education or mathematics theories.
  • Design or development of research methodologies.
  • Acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.
  • Critical interpretation of findings.

2. Intellectual Contribution to the Manuscript

The individual must have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

Such contributions may include evaluating arguments, verifying reasoning, improving methodological explanations, or critically interpreting research findings.

3. Final Approval

The individual must have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript intended for publication.

4. Accountability

The individual must agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be satisfied. A substantial technical contribution alone does not automatically establish authorship unless the remaining criteria are also met.

Funding Acquisition

Acquisition of financial support for the research.

One author may perform multiple roles, and the same role may be shared by several authors. CRediT roles describe contributions but do not independently determine eligibility for authorship. All listed authors must still satisfy the four authorship criteria stated in Eligibility for Authorship.

Authorship Order

The order of authors must be determined through agreement among all eligible authors before manuscript submission. Authorship order should reflect the nature and significance of scholarly contributions, taking into account disciplinary conventions and the agreement of the research team. The first author is generally the individual who has made a leading contribution to the research and manuscript preparation. The corresponding author is responsible for managing communication with the journal and coordinating responses throughout the submission, review, revision, and publication processes. Where authors have made equal contributions, this may be declared explicitly in the manuscript, subject to editorial approval. Academic rank, supervisory position, institutional authority, or funding responsibility must not be used as the sole basis for authorship order.

Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the Editorial Board of TRANSFORMASI: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika & Matematika.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.
  2. Confirming that all authors approve the final manuscript and its submission.
  3. Verifying the accuracy of author names, affiliations, and contact information.
  4. Ensuring that the manuscript complies with journal policies and publication ethics.
  5. Coordinating manuscript revisions and responses to reviewers.
  6. Communicating editorial decisions to all co-authors.
  7. Ensuring the submission of required declarations and supporting documents.
  8. Communicating any significant errors or integrity concerns to the Editorial Board.
  9. Coordinating post-publication correspondence when necessary.

The designation of a corresponding author does not reduce the individual or collective accountability of the other authors.

Contributors Who Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Individuals who contribute to a research project but do not satisfy all four authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. Such contributions may instead be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Examples include:

  1. General administrative or secretarial assistance.
  2. Routine data entry or transcription.
  3. Technical formatting or proofreading.
  4. General language editing.
  5. Provision of research facilities or institutional resources.
  6. General supervision without substantive intellectual involvement.
  7. Funding acquisition without additional qualifying scholarly contributions.
  8. Routine execution of software, calculations, or laboratory procedures.

Acknowledgments should describe the contributions appropriately. Permission should be obtained from individuals who are named in this section.

Prohibited Authorship Practices

TRANSFORMASI: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika & Matematika does not permit unethical authorship practices, including:

1. Gift Authorship

Including individuals as authors solely because of personal relationships, professional status, or institutional influence.

2. Honorary Authorship

Granting authorship to individuals because of seniority, academic position, or administrative authority without sufficient scholarly contributions.

3. Guest Authorship

Including individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility or visibility of a manuscript.

4. Ghost Authorship

Omitting individuals who have made qualifying scholarly contributions from the author list.

5. Coercive Authorship

Adding an individual as an author because of pressure, authority, or institutional coercion rather than legitimate scholarly contributions.

Suspected authorship misconduct may result in requests for clarification, suspension of editorial processing, rejection, or other appropriate editorial action.

Changes in Authorship

Any proposed addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors after manuscript submission must be communicated to the Editorial Board.

Requests for authorship changes must include:

  1. A clear explanation of the proposed change.
  2. The reasons supporting the change.
  3. Written agreement from all existing authors.
  4. Written consent from any author being added or removed.
  5. An updated statement of author contributions, when applicable.

Authorship changes are subject to editorial assessment and approval. Requests submitted after manuscript acceptance or publication may require additional investigation and supporting documentation. The Editorial Board may suspend manuscript processing while unresolved authorship issues are being examined.

Research Integrity and Collective Responsibility

All authors share responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the published research.

Authors must ensure that:

  1. All theorems are accurately presented.
  2. The analyses are methodologically appropriate and correctly interpreted.
  3. Research data and computational results are not fabricated, falsified, or intentionally misrepresented.
  4. Model assumptions, analytical limitations, and uncertainty are appropriately disclosed.
  5. Sources, datasets, algorithms, software, and third-party materials are properly acknowledged.
  6. Research methods are described sufficiently to allow verification or reproducibility where applicable.
  7. Significant errors identified before or after publication are promptly reported to the Editorial Board.

Each author must be able to identify the contributions of their co-authors and have reasonable confidence in the integrity of the research as a whole.

Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Tools

Artificial intelligence tools, including large language models, generative AI systems, and automated writing assistants, must not be listed as authors or co-authors. AI systems cannot satisfy the responsibilities of human authorship, including accountability, final approval, and responsibility for research integrity. Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for legitimate research or manuscript preparation activities, subject to transparent disclosure and the journal's applicable policies. When AI tools materially contribute to manuscript preparation, computational analysis, code development, data processing, or scientific content generation, authors must disclose their use in an appropriate section of the manuscript. The disclosure should identify the tool, describe its purpose, and explain how its outputs were verified. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of all AI-assisted content. Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use that compromises research integrity may be subject to editorial investigation.

Authorship Disputes and Editorial Procedures

Disputes concerning authorship eligibility, author order, contributor acknowledgment, or proposed authorship changes should first be addressed among the authors. Where an agreement cannot be reached, the relevant institution or research organization may be asked to investigate the dispute. The Editorial Board may request authorship statements, contribution records, correspondence, or supporting documentation when necessary. Manuscript processing may be suspended until the matter has been adequately resolved. The Editorial Board does not ordinarily determine individual contribution disputes on behalf of the research team but may take appropriate editorial action based on the available evidence and institutional findings.

Author Contribution Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a clear Author Contributions statement identifying the specific scholarly roles of each author. The statement may be prepared using the CRediT taxonomy.

Example:

Author 1: Conceptualization, Methodology, Formal Analysis, Writing – Original Draft.

Author 2: Mathematical Modeling, Software, Validation, Writing – Review & Editing.

Author 3: Data Curation, Investigation, Statistical Analysis, Visualization.

Author 4: Supervision, Methodology, Validation, Writing – Review & Editing.

All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for the integrity of the work. Where possible, contributions should use the official CRediT role names; discipline-specific descriptions may be provided as supplementary explanations.
