Abstract

This research was driven by the necessity for schools to maintain competitiveness through proper governance and management in order to provide effective and efficient educational services. The study aimed to examine the implementation of the Good School Governance concept at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sidoarjo using the OECD’s Good School Governance framework, which comprises eight principles. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through interviews, observations, and documentation, with informants selected using purposive sampling based on their roles and responsibilities. The findings indicated that the school implemented seven of the eight principles, while the principle of transparency required further improvement. The study also found that the principal’s leadership, supported by Muhammadiyah’s organizational values, contributed to the implementation of Good School Governance at the school. For policy implications, these findings suggest that school management should establish stronger transparency mechanisms and continue leveraging institutional core values to optimize overall school governance and competitiveness.
