Analysis of Quality Characteristics and Financial Feasibility of Dishwashing Liquid Made from Banana Peel Extract

Abstract

The abundance of banana peel waste in Lumajang Regency has noti beeni optimallyi utilizedi, despite containing active compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, and tannins that have potential as natural cleaning agents. The problems addressed in this study were to determine the best formulation of dishwashing soap made from banana peel extract, analyze its physical and chemical quality characteristics, and evaluate its financial feasibility. This study employed laboratory experimental methods using banana peel extract formulations of 30%, 40%, and 50%, along with financial feasibility analysis using Break Even Point (BEP), Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C Ratio), Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PBP). These methods functioned to evaluate product quality and assess business development prospects economically. The results showed that extract concentration significantly affected pH, viscosity, foam stability, and organoleptic characteristics of the dishwashing soap. The best formulation was obtained at 40% extract concentration, which produced quality characteristics that met standards and showed good panelist acceptance. Financial analysis indicated that the business is feasible to develop, with profitable economic indicators and relatively fast capital return. In conclusion, banana peel extract has strong potential as an environmentally friendly raw material for dishwashing soap with economic value and business development opportunities based on local resources.
