<p>The use of language as a means of communication inherently entails encountering obstacles, particularly in mastering spoken expression for effective comprehension. Thus, the acquisition of language skills demands inventive approaches to instruction. This research endeavors to enhance students’ motivation and proficiency in English speaking by introducing Greeting Card Media in the educational setting of Class VIII E at SMP Negeri 2 Bengkulu City. The research adopted a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing Classroom Action Research and a case study design. The study involved 34 students from Class VIII E as participants. Pre-test and post-test assessments were employed as research instruments, revealing an average pre-test score of 59.56 and a post-test score of 87.21. These results underscore the efficacy of greeting cards in enhancing students’ speaking proficiency. Among the 34 students engaged in English language learning, the integration of greeting cards as a pedagogical tool proved pivotal. The findings demonstrate a notable increase in students’ speaking motivation during English lessons, as evidenced by the transition from an initial average motivation score of 59.56 to a post-test score of 87.21, affirming the positive impact of greeting card media on language acquisition and student engagement.</p>Roza AprianiIvan Achmad Nurcholis

<p>This research described about an analysis of Syntactical Errors in writing cause and effect paragraphs made by the 2<sup>nd</sup> semester students of English Educational Department at PGRI University of Banyuwangi. The purpose of this research was to analyze the types and the dominant forms of Syntactical Errors in students’ cause and effect paragraphs. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. The sources of data in this research were cause and effect paragraphs made by 2<sup>nd</sup> semester students of English Educational Department at PGRI University of Banyuwangi. The researcher used Politzer and Romirez’s theory as a base for analyze the Syntactical Errors of the data. From the analysis, the researcher discovered that there were 45 different types of Syntactical Errors based on the data analysis and discussion. Students made errors in 33 types of noun phrases and 12 types of verb phrases. The errors can be percentage to 73% of noun phrases and 27% of verb phrases. From the percentages, the errors are dominated by noun phrases by 73% of the total Syntactical Errors found in writing cause and effect paragraphs made by the 2<sup>nd</sup> Semester Students of English Educational Department at PGRI University of Banyuwangi. </p>Arin InayahKarina Alfi Nuril LayliWiwin Indiarti

<p>This study aims to determine and describe the figurative language used in short stories. The research data were in the form of speech in text extracts, and were collected through document analysis using descriptive qualitative methods. The data were selected purposively. Data are selected using a coding system to identify data using figurative language. The selected data were analyzed using several Hymes communication ethnographic components which separate language form and language meaning. Figurative language is classified into types of figures based on the Kennedy theory. there are ten types of figurative language, namely: Metaphor, Simile, Personification, Pleonasm, Hyperbola, Repetition, Rhetoric, Ellipsis. The results of this study are expected to provide information about various figurative languages and messages. behind it and knowing how figurative language is used in literary works, especially in short stories for students. In addition, it is also hoped that it can be useful for English language lecturers as input and consideration for applying some material about types of figurative language, especially those used in short stories. <p>The purpose of the research is to determine the teachers’perceptions on online English learning using WhatsApp. The research method used in this research is descriptive quantitative research. The respondents were 10 English teachers at Junior High Schools in Sempu Sub-District. The sampling technique used was the purposive sampling. The data was collected by using the questionnaire through Google Form and interviews. The result of this research regarding the Teachers’ Perception on Online English Learning Using Whatsapp at Junior High Schools in Sempu, Sub-District is in a good category with overall percentage 60,3%. For the results of interviews, the online English learning using WhatsApp can help them to do an online learning process easily. However, there are still some challenges that happened to online learning using WhatsApp. The monitoring carried out by the teachers on their students was not as easy as face-to-face learning activities. The researcher suggests for the English teachers to use WhatsApp as a learning media. <p>Speaking is one of the important skills that must be mastered by students. Those who have low communication skills will have difficulty in expressing their thoughts, and they feel anxiety when they speak in front class. These problems should be addressed immediately. Based on these problem, the researchers conducted the study about finding the level of students' anxiety in speaking skills and the types of students' anxiety in speaking skills. The respondent in this study was the students in VII B at SMP Islamic Sunan Gunungjati. This study used a quantitative descriptive method. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire sheet to obtain the instrument. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the level of anxiety in students' speaking skills at SMP Islamic Sunan Gunungjati is "high”. The students had difficulties in speaking skills because they felt anxiety, had lack of confidence, and were afraid doing mistaken when they were speaking English in front of the class. Then, the type of student anxiety in speaking skills at SMP Islamic Sunan Gunungjati is "trait anxiety". <p>This research is error analysis research on students’ comparison and contrast paragraph writing of the second semester students’ of English Educational Department at PGRI University of Banyuwangi<em>. </em>The aims of this research was to identify the types of errors in writing comparison and contrast paragraph made by second semester students’ at PGRI University of Banyuwangi. Using a purposive sample, students in the second-semester of the 2021/2022 academic year were selected as samples in this study. The research study is classified into a descriptive qualitative study. The data source were collected from the students’ writing of second semester. The instrument used in this research is the document. Corder theory becomes the main key in the data analysis.</p> <p>Based on the analysis of the grammatical errors, four types of errors were found. These four errors are as follows. In class A, there are 18 total error sentences with 4 types of errors (six errors in omission, five in addition, two in misformation, and three in misordering). <p>The purpose of this study is to learn about students' pronunciation skills, particularly in pronouncing short and long vowels. The research was descriptive quantitative in nature. The eight grade students, a total of 30 kids, are the focus of this study. The information is gathered using an oral test. The data was quantitatively analyzed to determine the percentage of students who scored well on pronunciation. The largest inaccuracy in the pupils' pronunciation was / æ /, which had a total percentage of 63,33% and was classed as moderate. To avoid mispronounce, the researcher proposed that teachers provide students the exact pronunciations. Students should practice more by using an online dictionary or other resources to assist them enhance their pronunciation skills.</p>Isabella RosalinWageyonoAbdul Halim
